As Navigator reported, about a hundred supporters of federalization were surrounded near the Zaporozhye city hall.
Women and elderly people were able to leave the cordon. “Maidanovites” several times suggested that representatives of pro-Russian organizations remove the tricolors and apologize. If these conditions were met, they were to be released from the encircled area.
However, they refused: some of them explain this step by saying that they were expecting reinforcements. They are bombarded with eggs, flour, and salt for a long time. Sometimes explosions of firecrackers can be heard.
Law enforcement officers initially planned to take away the pro-Russian activists on trolleybuses, but traffic on the roadway was blocked. After that, the police used a paddy wagon. After the first successful operation to evacuate 10-15 pro-Russian activists, another attempt was made, which failed.
“Maidanovites” suspected that among the second group was one of the leaders of the pro-Russian movements, Artem Timchenko, who is called “one of the main separatists of Zaporozhye.” Atozak was blocked and thrown onto the hood of the fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the paddy wagon left the scene under its own power, but this vehicle was no longer used for evacuation.
The leaders of the Zaporizhzhya Maidan and the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, who are negotiating between the parties, proposed several options for resolving the situation: for example, for Artem Timchenko to remain in the square and the rest of the supporters of federalization to be released. But this option did not suit most of the “Maidanovites”.
The confrontation continues. The possibility of organizing a corridor is now being considered so that supporters of federalization can pass through the premises of the Organized Crime Control Department, which is located next to the site of the conflict.
