The play “The Cauldron” was written based on the memories of real people. The main characters are Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, their relatives, war correspondents and migrants from eastern Ukraine.
As the playwright and director of the play Anastasia Kolodiy said, rehearsals took place for almost a month and were specially timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Ilovaisk Cauldron.
“It all started with the synchronized cyborg, our Slava Zaitsev. I collected quotes and they resulted in this kind of discussion. In addition to the fighter and his relatives, I added monologues of immigrants and wanted to show that we, the Cossacks, are also immigrants. Few of us are native residents of our city. In fact, our parents and grandfathers also once came here to build the Dnieper hydroelectric station or industrial giants, or after the end of the war in 1945,” Kolodiy said.
Also in the play appeared the character of a woman from Volyn, who connects the ATO soldiers with the UPA soldiers, drawing parallels between the two wars.
“It was very easy to get into the role. She is so realistic that there was no need to invent anything,” said actress Polina Polozhentseva.
