Zaporozhye, April 04 (Navigator, Olga Nikolaeva) - Employees of the Organized Crime Control Department conducted a search in the Zaporozhye regional council in connection with the suspicion of its head, Viktor Mezheiko, of organizing and receiving kickbacks from food suppliers to educational and health care institutions in the region.

A search is also taking place at the homes of two of Mezheiko’s official assistants.
Mezheiko is a deputy of the City Council from the Party of Regions; in 2013 he was elected head of the regional council.
Previously, he was accused of having connections with the “supervisor” of Zaporozhye, Yevgeny Anisimov, who was arrested at Boryspil airport in October 2013 on charges of extortion.
