In Zaporozhye, the authorities both want and are hesitant to rename 12 streets and one avenue

The regional commission for the elimination of symbols of the totalitarian heritage has already compiled a list of streets that should be renamed in the future, reports the Vgorode portal.
So far, members of the commission have come up with a variant of a new name only for Lenin Avenue, which could become Cathedral - in memory of Cathedral Street, which became the basis for the avenue in the old part of the city.
“The question is purely about money. They say that renaming is very expensive, because you need to change the registration in people’s passports. But, after consulting with lawyers, we found out that the registration can be changed during re-registration: funds are needed only for new plates,” said commission member Mikhail Levchenko.
In particular, it is planned to rename the streets of Chekistov, Dzerzhinsky, Ilyich, 40 years of Soviet Ukraine, Chubar, Leninogorskaya, Leningradskaya, Yakira, Tukhachevsky, Kosior, Ulyanov, Sacco and Vanzetti, Lenin Square.
As PolitNavigator reported, a corresponding commission was previously created by order of the chairman of the Zaporozhye regional state administration.
