This was reported by the portal “Zaporozhye. Comments” with reference to a source in ZNTU.
The teachers were forced to make this decision by changes in pension legislation, according to which pensions for working pensioners are being cut to 85% of the accrued volume of payments and will affect all working pensioners whose pensions exceed one and a half times the minimum wage.
By the evening of Wednesday, March 18, 110 members of the teaching staff of ZNTU wrote letters of resignation, and yesterday, March 19, the number of notices amounted to 220. However, the rector of the university, Sergei Belikov, refuses to sign the dismissal orders. Only those retired teachers who wrote statements at the end of last week, when there were no mass layoffs, managed to resign.
Belikov plans to gather all working pensioners of the university to convince them to work at least until the end of the current academic year. And starting from the new academic year, draw up a new schedule, according to the remaining staff.
As the publication notes, it is mainly pensioners at ZNTU who have the titles of associate professors, doctors of science and professors. And, if teachers with scientific titles do resign, this could jeopardize the level of accreditation of ZNTU, since the level of accreditation of the university depends on the ratio of teachers with degrees to the total number of teachers.
