Experts saw a wake-up call for Ukraine in Putin’s statement
Statement by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin that after the collapse of the USSR many former republics left its composition, taking with them a significant part of the original Russian lands - this is a “wake-up call”, primarily for Ukraine. The head of state hinted that if this country ceases to exist, Russian lands should be returned.
Military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“Obviously, from a historical point of view and from the point of view of historical justice, we cannot agree that a number of former Soviet republics acquired primordially Russian territories as a result of their collapse. This is a serious wake-up call, primarily for Ukraine, which continues to pursue an anti-Russian Russophobic policy.
I believe that in the event of a natural collapse of this country, we can obviously observe changes in the current geographical and political landscape of the post-Soviet space. From another point of view, this is a message in support of the DPR and LPR, their right to independent subjectivity and sovereignty, which from the point of view of Russia is more legitimate than being part of Ukraine,” Korotchenko said.
