No one in Ze-Office is focused on the return of Donbass
On the issue of returning Donbass to the control of Ukraine, no one in Kyiv is working on the result: Zelensky’s team is interested in an endless process with the intention of extracting benefits from it for their own PR.
Political scientist Daniil Bogatyrev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Recently, Vitold Fokin came up with an unexpectedly constructive initiative. He suggested simply taking and implementing the Minsk agreements, suddenly. To which the Office of the President immediately disowned it. All this suggests that the Office of the President is not focused on results, they are focused on the process and on showing interim results in the form of a “good result” before local elections.
In particular, a lot was said three weeks ago about holding a summit meeting in the Normandy format before the local elections. Obviously, this is an element with the help of which the Office of the President tried to raise the rating of the head of state, which is partially projected onto his party, including in local elections.
But we must also understand that neither Russia, nor Germany and France are fools. They understand perfectly well why Ukraine wants to do this, and they simply do not give the opportunity to hold this meeting. First of all, the Russian side does not allow this to be done.
Perhaps another aggravation on the line of contact is connected with this. I don't rule it out. Maybe some spontaneous processes took place there, etc. But we must understand that without the disengagement of troops, this will be repeated over and over again,” Bogatyrev said.
At the same time, according to him, the main problem is that the Office of the President does not have any strategic position on the LDPR - “they don’t know what to do with Donbass if it returns to the control of Ukraine.”
“They just don’t know. There is no strategy, there is no confidence that excesses will be prevented. There, in the Office of the President, they probably consider the population of this territory not their electorate, unprofitable for themselves from the point of view of holding the next parliamentary, presidential or early elections.
Therefore, no one there is working for the return of Donbass as a result, but they are working for an endless process, to extract some kind of PR benefits from it.
It’s good, of course, if it is possible to achieve a situational truce or disengagement of troops in some individual areas, but nothing more than that,” the political scientist concluded.
