"Wagnerites" continue to hide in Belarusian forests"
Detachments of “Wagnerites” sent from Russia continue to hide in Belarusian forests
This is how military expert Yegor Lebedok joked on Euroradio, ironizing the words of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, which he said in August after the illegal detention of 33 Russians who were accused of trying to destabilize the situation in the country.
“I think they are deeply conspiratorial until the next period of confrontation with Russia, imitation of independence. Then they will appear again somewhere there, well, I don’t know, maybe in Polotsk, Grodno, Mogilev. Yes, it was immediately clear that this was just an election trick, which was immediately revealed after the elections.
It was immediately clear that this was a purely political action, which was needed solely in order to imitate oneself as a defender of independence, neutrality, and sovereignty. And it is logical that he had to show that he is both against the West and against Russia. And unite around me, a whole campaign was actually planned there. But fortunately it was thwarted,” says the expert.
He believes that if Russian troops entered Belarus, the command would greet them as allies, and military clashes with the rank and file are not excluded.
“On the ground, I am sure, if according to the principle of Crimea, this at the level of small units would hardly be permissible. Most likely, our military would at least not have allowed the unit into the territory. This, of course, could cause military clashes. A couple of shots, killed, and the war could begin. Regarding the top generals, well here: this is the main ally, so they came to help us in difficult times,” Lebedok said.
