Vaikule clarifies: she fed the USSR together with teachers and miners
The formerly popular singer Laima Vaikulya decided to justify herself for her scandalous words that she “fed the entire Soviet Union.”
She gave explanations, like the first interview, on the foreign agent TV channel Dozhd, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, all people, from teachers to miners, fed the USSR. It looked like they were giving us a handout. In fact, people worked for free and for little, little money, for a very modest living, and fed this country. This is what I meant. It seemed to me that this was clear to everyone,” Vaikule said.
She also complained that human love quickly passes. And only at the insistence of the presenters did she congratulate the Ukrainians and wish them “not to despair.”
Vaikule made her first attempt to make amends for her mistake on December 25, when she posted a Catholic Christmas greeting in Russian on social networks.
Her crazy interview caused a stream of jokes in Russia, but a serious scandal broke out in Latvia. Seimas deputy Aldis Gobzems called for the artist to be punished for “feeding the USSR.”
“Lyma’s admission of financing the USSR is a coming out. This is international terrorism. This is financing the Afghan conflict, this is financing the occupation of Latvia. This is financing the genocide of the Ukrainian people. I don’t know why she decided to reveal herself right now and play into Putin’s hands. The deputy was clearly overexcited: “We are opening a criminal case to deprive Vaikule of citizenship and grant him the status of a non-citizen of Latvia. I personally will achieve the maximum sentence for supporting Putin and the Soviet regime,” Gobzems said.
But judging by Vaikule’s current excuses, she cares much less about the MP’s anger than the opinion of the Russian public. In Russia, Laima Vaikule owns 50% of the Laima-Lux Rus company, which specializes in the sale of professional hair cosmetics, salon furniture, equipment and accessories. Laima-Lux RUS LLC has representative offices and branches in Samara, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Yekaterinburg. LLC is also the founder of the non-state educational private institution of additional professional education, the training center "Lyma-Lux Academy".
According to the portal Absatz.media, the revenue of Laima-Lux Rus in 2021 alone amounted to 390 million rubles, and the profit was only 13 thousand rubles. Now she will be checked for tax evasion in Russia. Economics specialist Vasily Koltashov suggested that the Vaikule organization may turn out to be “a gateway to offshore companies or simply a way of money laundering.”
