Vakarchuk could not compete with the hardened Zelensky
The refusal of the Ukrainian musician and singer Svyatoslav Vakarchuk to run for president of Ukraine, despite a relatively decent rating, is explained by his unsuccessful experience in politics.
This opinion was expressed in a comment to PolitNavigator by the director of the Agency for Social Communications, Sergei Belashko, according to whom Vakarchuk did not seriously think about running for president.
“Yes, they pushed him, they tried to play a game with him, send him to the elections, and then see - either spin him like Zelensky, or use him as a spoiler against the same Zelensky or Tymoshenko, or merge votes for Poroshenko. There were different options. But Vakarchuk did not want to be a doll in the wrong hands. He denied it, refused, but, as I understand it, it was suggested by quite serious people who were not comfortable just saying: go for a walk, dear friends. Now his rating is about 2%, and before it was at 6%,” Belashko said.
In addition, he recalled, Vakarchuk was once a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada.
“It was all very comical. He spent a year and a half in parliament and simply ran away. He would appear there, after half an hour he would feel sad, he didn’t know what to do with himself, and then he would look for any excuse to leave. A person needs to do what he can do, what he is passionate about, what he has talent for, and so on,” the expert noted.
The political scientist also does not rule out that Vakarchuk will appear on some list in the parliamentary elections.
“But there is uncertainty here too. On the one hand, this is a famous person who has no negativity. He can attract votes. On the other hand, he is uncontrollable. Zelensky is an experienced person in politics. He had been doing it for quite a long time, he just did it non-publicly. He advised Kolomoisky and even served as his unofficial adviser when he served as governor. But Vakarchuk went into politics publicly, but in the end this campaign ended in nothing,” Belashko concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the lead singer of the Ukrainian group “Okean Elzy” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, who took part in the Maidans of 2004 and 2014, announced his refusal to participate in the election race.
