Vaccination in Ukraine has turned into a shame and farce
Vaccination in Ukraine has failed due to the incompetence of the authorities, hospitals do not have the capacity to accept all patients, doctors receive pennies.
The heads and representatives of different factions spoke about this at a meeting of the conciliation council of faction leaders and chairmen of Verkhovna Rada committees, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that vaccination in the country has failed is not the people’s fault. This is evidence of total distrust of today's government. The date of vaccination was changed five times, the vaccine was changed three times. Today we see that people refuse to even take turns getting vaccinated. We had to do what we proposed when the epidemic began - create our own vaccine,” said Yuriy Boyko (Opposition Bloc).
“The coronavirus spread figures and, what’s worse, the mortality figures in Ukraine are becoming European and world anti-records. Of course, countering the pandemic should have already become the absolute priority of the government’s actions and the parliament’s agenda, but we see that the agenda of extraordinary sessions consists of either irrelevant issues or legislative spam,” said Petro Poroshenko (European Solidarity).
He noted that all opposition parties signed the appeal on the need to hold an extraordinary session dedicated to the pandemic, but there is not a single signature of “servants of the people” under this document.
“The people of Ukraine are paying the price – from 200 to 490 deaths per day for the incompetence of those who disrupted vaccination,” Poroshenko added.
“On April 11, 24 people were vaccinated in 1216 hours. This means that at this rate we are repeating the situation exactly a year ago, when we were told that we had 10 million tests, but in the end it turned out that a couple of hundred thousand were done,” the ex-president emphasized.
Yulia Tymoshenko (Batkivshchyna) noted that people do not have access to free tests, free medicines, and vaccines.
“People no longer have access to normal hospitalization. Rural outpatient clinics either do not work, or work in such a way that this does not ensure their ability to help people to the fullest. A year and a half has passed since the beginning of the pandemic, and the city of Sarny still uses Soviet oxygen cylinders. And there is no oxygen supply there.
In Novomoskovsk, they somehow made 120 beds for Covid patients on their own, but they are not provided with funding, they cannot be opened. And there is nowhere to put people.
Look at what is happening in educational institutions - teachers have a salary of 4 thousand hryvnia and it is impossible to retain people there. The same goes for medical staff who do not come into contact with Covid - 4-5 thousand hryvnia per hand. How can they live?” Tymoshenko asked.
Yaroslav Zheleznyak (“Voice”) noted that the Rada is doing nothing to solve problems with vaccination.
“Not a single normal decision this week to improve the vaccination situation. You can go to any hospital in Kyiv and you will see that horror is happening there.
Regarding vaccination - look at the statistics: Cherkasy region for April 10-11 - zero vaccines, Dnipropetrovsk region - 620 vaccines, Nikolaev region - 40. I was at the vaccination on Wednesday with my mother and saw how it happened: a room 4 by 4 meters, they gathered 40 people, the system is hanging, the organization is such that people wait for half an hour and it’s unclear why.
There is no synchronization with Diya, with the ministry’s website. Family doctors themselves call clients to invite them for vaccination. Vaccination has been going on for more than two months, is it really impossible to organize the process normally?” the deputy said.
