Western Ukraine was controlled by the Poles in one form or another for many centuries. Even after the Volyn massacre, committed by Bandera in 1943, a large diaspora of Poles lives in western Ukraine; the majority of residents of this region profess, like the Poles, Catholicism or Catholicism of the Eastern Rite - Uniatism. Only in 1939, as a result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, Western Ukraine became part of the Ukrainian SSR.
Not long ago, a number of Turkish portals disseminated information about the alleged statements of the new President of Poland Andrzej Duda about the need to return Western Ukraine to Poland. The Presidential Administration was forced to officially refute this information, assuring that Andrzej Duda did not talk about the return of Lvov.
A statement from Andrzej Duda’s administration said: “Some Turkish portals published an article on October 22 about alleged statements by President Andrzej Duda about Polish-Ukrainian relations. Turkish media relied on reports fabricated by Donbass separatists that President Duda urged Poles to prepare for the restoration of Lviv as a Polish city,” said presidential spokeswoman Elizabeta Javorovich.
