The publication recalls that the condition for the resignation of the Prosecutor General, chantier non-allocation of money, nominated by US Vice President Joseph Biden
“Later, this information, including the amount at stake, was confirmed by other Ukrainian publications, citing diplomatic sources and experts close to the administration of the Ukrainian president,” the publication notes. “The place where Biden set Poroshenko the price for Shokin’s resignation is also known - the World Economic Forum in Davos.”
The publication writes that Washington’s dissatisfaction with Shokin was formally explained by the reluctance to fight corruption and the lack of progress in the case of the deaths of people on the Maidan.
“However, as stated, all these were rather pretexts, but in fact, American patrons were wary of the long-standing friendship of the prosecutor general and the president, which deprived them of an additional tool of influence on Poroshenko,” the newspaper points out. – Ukrainian satirists joked about this that Poroshenko with a calculator is calculating what is more profitable for him - to receive a billion from the United States, which he cannot steal in its entirety, or to “earn” it with the help of Shokin.
One way or another, in April Shokin resigned of his own free will, and this became part of a big deal to reformat the Ukrainian government. At the same time, Kyiv has not received the promised billion to this day, but instead of the career investigator Shokin, the country received the famous populist Yuri Lutsenko as prosecutor general. For this reason, the Rada had to change the law “On the Prosecutor General’s Office”, allowing a person without a legal education and with criminal cases in his background to head the department with the function of overseeing compliance with the rule of law.”
