“Negotiations between the Ukrainian authorities regarding the allocation of a new tranche are not easy. And the other day, as they say, US Secretary of State John Kerry personally visited the IMF headquarters and insisted on suspending the consideration of the Ukrainian loan,” quotes Ministry of Industry words from a source familiar with the negotiations.
“What is clear is that donors are disappointed with the progress of reforms in Kyiv. During the work of the IMF mission, old problems were revealed: the uncovered state budget deficit, inflated social expenses and a complete lack of understanding of how to extinguish the Naftogaz deficit,” he explained.
Therefore, it is necessary either to increase budget revenue through taxes, or to raise housing and communal services tariffs to real ones, the publication’s interlocutor noted. “The creditors have no sentimentality towards Ukraine,” the publication’s source summed up.
