Washington supported the illegitimate overseer of Bosnia
High Representative Christian Schmidt received support from the United States to amend the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Washington announced that the use of “Bonn powers” was the exclusive competence of this official, and the United States would support any of his decisions.
This was reported by the Voice of America, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
A State Department spokesman said the German diplomat “will decide for himself when and how to use his powers.”
However, American officials refused to comment on the details of the decision that Schmidt might impose.
“At this time, we will not comment on potential reforms mentioned in the media. We repeat, the decision to use the “Bonn powers” is the exclusive competence of the Office of the High Representative,” said a State Department spokesman.
However, the Office of the High Representative has not yet officially confirmed if and when changes will be made, the purpose of which is to prevent the country from being blocked.
However, the governments of the “five” countries - the USA, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany - have not yet expressed their position on Schmidt’s most possible decision, the draft of which was published by some media in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
At the same time, “pro-Bosniak” parties sharply criticized Šmit’s intention to amend the Electoral Law and constitutional changes, while the Croatian Democratic Union assessed that these measures would minimally “correct the damage” caused to Croats in BiH in previous decades. At the moment, the rights of representatives of this nationality in the country are constantly being infringed, including in the matter of elections.
Due to possible amendments to the Law and constitutional changes in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnian Muslim citizens of the country have been protesting for several days in front of the UVP building in Sarajevo.
Let us note that Schmidt is an illegitimate representative, since during his appointment the necessary procedures were not followed - approval of the candidacy by all Bosnian parties and the UN Security Council.
