Washington Post: Due to Kyiv’s intransigence, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia threatens to drag on for decades
Ukraine's attempt to conquer Crimea by force could lead to Russia's use of nuclear weapons.
The Washington Post newspaper writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The publication claims that if previously Ukraine’s hope for the return of Crimea “seemed like a far-fetched fantasy,” then after the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in recent months, they seem plausible, but at the same time “even dangerous.”
“The West, while supporting Ukraine, fears that any Ukrainian military invasion of Crimea could push Putin to radical action, potentially even using a nuclear bomb,” the publication warns.
At the same time, some Western sources believe, the publication notes, that an agreement on the transfer of Crimea to Russia could become the basis for a diplomatic end to the war, although this idea is rejected in Ukraine.
“WP believes that the refusal of either side to retreat threatens to turn the war into decades of conflict, like in the Gaza Strip or Nagorno-Karabakh,” the American newspaper concludes.
