Washington is at a loss, not understanding who to bet on in Ukraine now
“The trio of “Euro-optimists” (Leshchenko, Nayem, Zalishchuk) made a five-day voyage to the United States,” during which meetings were held with US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Advisor to the US Vice President Anna Makanju, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael Carpenter and the coordinator of the US State Department on sanctions issues by Dan Fried, reports the weekly “2000”.

The publication, with reference to a press release following the visit, notes that Ukrainian deputies in Washington raised the issue of the inadmissibility of limiting the powers of NABU and destroying the electronic declaration system, and also called on the American authorities to impose personal sanctions on Ukrainian top corrupt officials.”
“Let us pay attention to the ease with which people’s deputies, at meetings with representatives of another state, raise questions concerning the purely internal affairs of Ukraine,” the publication points out. – At the end of the message it is emphasized: “The visit of the deputies was at the expense of the host party and did not entail expenditures from the state budget.” The last passage is clearly intended to show not so much the scrupulous attitude of people’s deputies towards people’s money, but rather the political background of the visit. Indeed, the personal invitation of three formally ordinary deputies and the level of the receiving officials, which was quite high for their status, are obvious gestures of support for the “Euro-optimists,” whose image has been considerably damaged by the housing issue.”
“However, the status of Washington’s creatures does not at all guarantee immunity,” writes “2000.” – Quite the contrary: over the past year, Valentin Nalyvaichenko was dismissed, Natalia Yaresko completely disappeared from the political horizon, “anti-corruption” prosecutors Kasko and Sakvarelidze were removed, and Mikheil Saakashvili completely curtailed his activities and, apparently, is seeing out his last days in the chair of Odessa governor.
Now the “European-optimists” have become dirty - and the Americans, it seems, simply have no replacement for them. Even theoretically, the promotion of new political figures will require serious financial resources, which are unlikely to come directly from outside, and it will be extremely difficult to find people in Ukraine willing to allocate them. In short, we can talk about a major failure of US policy: they failed to completely form “their own” ruling elite in Ukraine.”
