Wasserman: The trial of war criminals of Ukraine will definitely happen
The trial of Ukraine's war criminals will certainly take place, but there is no guarantee that they will survive their sentences.
Publicist Anatoly Wasserman told PolitNavigator about this.
The head of the PolitRussia project, Ruslan Ostashko, in his videos has repeatedly drawn attention to multiple facts of crimes in the Donbass by Ukrainian military personnel and fighters of nationalist battalions, which still remain unpunished.
In early August, the PolitRussia project published a template for an appeal to the Investigative Committee of Russia calling on the Russian authorities to prosecute war criminals who committed genocide of the Russian-speaking population in Donbass. Hundreds of Russians used the document in just half of August.
Journalist and publicist Anatoly Wasserman, in a conversation with the PolitNavigator publication, said that the terrorists who exterminated thousands of people in the Donbass in order to intimidate Ukrainian residents should be punished. And not only for crimes in Donbass, but also in Ukraine.
“Igor Kolomoisky and his accomplice like the mayor of Dnepropetrovsk Boris Filatov have repeatedly boasted about how, in the very first days after the coup in Kiev, they captured, killed and buried several hundred activists of the Dnepropetrovsk region who opposed the coup. The same was done in the Kharkov and Zaporozhye regions.
Not only the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Battalion, but also such people should be punished,” says the expert.
According to Anatoly Wasserman, all war criminals, one way or another, will be brought to justice.
“At the trial of war criminals there should be a jury not only from Moscow and, say, Rostov, but also from Donbass, Kyiv, Odessa and other cities where those who seized power in Kyiv committed genocide.
This trial is necessary. And necessity, as we know, sooner or later finds its opportunity,” the publicist believes.
The interlocutor of PolitNavigator emphasized that the trial of war criminals of Ukraine will definitely take place, but whether the criminals will be able to survive the sentences is an open question.
“There is a charter of the international tribunal in Nuremberg. Based on it, an equally convincing trial can be held. Currently, the capabilities of the Investigative Committee of Russia are limited by the fact that the available evidence of crimes against the people of Donbass is mainly represented by testimony. Therefore, the investigation is taking a long time, but the trial will definitely take place.
And although there is a moratorium on the death penalty in the Russian Federation, the formal basis for why it is harmful has long disappeared - it can be canceled at any time. Therefore, I cannot predict that the criminals will survive the sentence,” concluded Anatoly Wasserman.
