About this in interview “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” was told by the head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, who shared the details of the meeting in the Danilov Monastery with the Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolini, who will be received by Patriarch Kirill today.
“We have a common understanding that churches in Ukraine must first of all carry out a peacekeeping mission. And when calls for aggression and hostility are heard from the lips of one or another hierarch or a person positioning himself as a representative of the Church, then we can in no way support or justify this. The responsibility of churches in Ukraine for peacemaking today is very great.
I told the cardinal about our bewilderment about the aggressive rhetoric that often comes from representatives of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. And he touched upon the topic of discriminatory bills that were proposed for inclusion on the agenda of the Verkhovna Rada. They weren't brought out until the summer holidays, but that doesn't mean they won't reappear in one form or another. This deeply worries us, because the bills are clearly discriminatory in relation to the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate,” said Metropolitan Hilarion.
