An important rank of the Bundeswehr “ran into” Russia
Russia is “a significant threat to peace in Europe,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This was stated by the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Eberhard Zorn, to the publications of the media group Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, DW reports.
“The facts speak for themselves,” Zorn said, citing as examples the situation with Crimea, the conflict in eastern Ukraine, the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, Britain, as well as Russia’s withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty). In all cases, according to the German military, Russia is to blame.
“If the treaty ends, the world will need a new agreement aimed at disarmament,” says the inspector general of the Bundeswehr. According to Zorn, such a deal needs to involve not only Russia and the United States, but also China.
Earlier in the day, thousands of Germans took part in traditional “Easter marches” for peace. The event was held under the slogan “Disarmament instead of armament - ban nuclear weapons.” The march in Dusseldorf attracted about one and a half thousand people, becoming the largest. In Berlin, the rally attracted about a thousand participants protesting against the withdrawal of leading nuclear powers from arms control treaties.
