Leading Western media outlets began to acknowledge the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine with dissatisfaction.
The Russian anti-Covid vaccine Sputnik V could play an important role in the global vaccination strategy.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this: пишет popular news portal Business Insider.
“It is highly unlikely that Sputnik V will have as yet unknown side effects or that the vaccine will be ineffective. Even if the actual effectiveness of the vaccine turns out to be significantly lower than official figures promise, this does not mean that it is completely useless. First of all, thanks to its simple logistics, Sputnik V will be able to play an important role in the global vaccination strategy,” the article notes.
The publication reports that German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin “possible prospects for joint production of a vaccine,” and also recalls that the British company AstraZeneca, which itself created the vaccine, wants to cooperate in the future with the developers of Sputnik V, thanks to which both vaccines need to be improved.
The publication notes that the West has not developed a global vaccine distribution strategy.
“So far, all doses of the Moderna vaccine and 96% of the doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine have been purchased by rich countries. All Germans will be given the opportunity to be vaccinated by the beginning of summer. However, overall, only 18% of the world's population will be able to be vaccinated by the end of 2021. And here we are talking not only about an insufficient number of doses for Germany, but also about the real failure of global vaccination. And autocracies like Russia and China will willingly fill this vacuum in supply with their vaccines and, moreover, make money from it,” Business Insider sums up dissatisfied.
