Russia will retreat as a result of economic collapse, mass casualties, or Chinese pressure.

About it says in the latest publication of one of the most influential American publications dedicated to foreign policy, Foreign Affairs.

“There will most likely be no solution; it is more likely that we will have to wait for the emergence of a new Russian leader who is ready to accept a truly sovereign Ukraine, and this, unfortunately, is beyond the capacity of the West. However, the West can maintain and selectively increase support for Ukraine, maintain limits on its direct military intervention, and increase economic pressure on Russia. This would mean a policy aimed at managing the war, not ending it,” the publication notes.

Moscow has already complained about the lack of ideas in American expert circles.

“An illustrative article by the chief American international affairs specialist Richard Haas on the prospects for a settlement in Ukraine. Quite sound reasoning about why no political and diplomatic schemes will work at the moment. An interesting reference to the principle of “peace in exchange for territory,” known from the practice of Arab-Israeli relations, with an explanation of why it will not work here. It is a correct observation that the West’s position “Kyiv must decide for itself what steps it is ready to take” is incorrect, because the West’s stakes are wider than those of Ukraine.

And then the conclusion: we need to do everything the same, only better. For example, to offer China something, and not just threaten. But in general, there is no other course.

And there is only one chance for a solution - to wait until Putin is gone. And then try to offer something to the new Russian boss,” writes Russian international affairs specialist Fyodor Lukyanov in his commentary.

“In general, the bottom line is, there are no ideas,” he sums up.
