The Newsone presenter from Odessa was afraid of pressure from the right and refused to go to the Rada on Zelensky’s list
Former deputy of the Odessa City Council, head of the National Development Strategy platform Dmitry Spivak refused to run in elections to the Verkhovna Rada on the list of the Servant of the People party, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I made a difficult but deliberate decision for myself. I'm not going to parliament! Spivak wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
He named the reasons for this decision. In particular, he noted that after he was announced as number 33 at the Servant of the People party congress, “a whole campaign to discredit” was launched on social networks against him and his family.
Spivak also emphasized that many people do not like his public position. “But I will not change it to suit the current situation. And for the sake of the notorious mandate, too. Therefore, I would not like to cause any reputational risks to President Zelensky and his party,” he explained.
Other reasons include “my journalistic and television activities give me great opportunities to influence the formation of public opinion and benefit my country by uncovering corruption and controlling the government and its decisions.” “And I will continue to engage in this activity. Openly and publicly,” Spivak assured.
In addition, he sees it as his task to do everything possible so that the so-called “patriots” and “activists” disappear from the public consciousness of people and the life of the country.
Nationalists launched an attack on Spivak, trying to ensure that the scandal would force Zelensky’s party to abandon its candidate. In particular, Sergei Sternenko, an odious Odessa ex-rightist and a man accused of murdering a serviceman, dedicated a series of posts on the social network to attacks on Spivak.
Let us remind you that Dmitry Spivak is the host of his own program on the Newsone channel. It was cooperation with a channel within the orbit of Viktor Medvedchuk and the voicing of theses considered in the right-wing environment as “pro-Kremlin propaganda” that became the main reason for the attack on Spivak by public opinion leaders from the right camp. At the same time, the radical part of the anti-Maidan camp, in turn, criticizes Spivak for his moderate position, in particular, during the protests in the spring of 2014, when he recorded an appeal to Vladimir Putin calling not to interfere in the affairs of post-Maidan Ukraine.
