UK plans to speed up training of Ukrainian military
In Odessa, a meeting between the commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Navy and representatives of the headquarters of the NATO training mission in Ukraine “Orbital” took place.
This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the meeting, British Navy Colonel Michael Weymouth emphasized that recently the staff of the training mission has doubled, and Western “partners” have begun to allocate much more funds for the training of Ukrainian military personnel.
“I am pleased to announce that we will be joined by 2 Royal Navy officers who will be working directly at Orbital HQ. It is also worth noting that during this time the staff of the training mission has doubled, and significantly more funds are being allocated for our operation in Ukraine,” said the British officer.
In turn, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Rear Admiral Alexei Neizhpapa, also spoke about the expansion of the NATO mission in Ukraine, and announced the imminent delivery of a new batch of warships (probably we are talking about the next transfer to Kyiv decommissioned US boats).
“This year we are preparing the basis for increasing the number of ships, including with the help of Great Britain. I know that this program is being developed today and I am confident that this is the result of our fruitful mutual cooperation.
We continue to build up the maritime direction of Operation Orbital, and our next step will be inter-branch training of the Ukrainian Navy, when all branches are used under a single leadership. All this is in accordance with NATO standards,” Neizhpapa added.
Let us recall that before the defeat of the Georgian army in South Ossetia, it was also intensively trained and armed by NATO instructors.
