Great Britain imposed sanctions against the leadership of Republika Srpska
Serbian member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik and President of Republika Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic were subject to British sanctions.
London imposed sanctions on the leadership of the RS for “an attempt to undermine the legitimacy and functionality of BiH.”
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, according to the sanctions that Great Britain personally imposed on Dodik and Tsvijanovic, they are denied access to the United Kingdom, and they also lose the right to any property located in the territory of this country.
“Today’s decision by the Foreign Secretary (of Great Britain – ed.) is important and necessary,” commented the British Prime Minister’s Special Representative for the Western Balkans, Stuart Peach, on his Facebook page. “These people are on a dangerous path that is detrimental to stability and law and order in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The sooner a turn is made from this path, the better for the citizens of BiH.”
The Sarajevo elite also supported London's actions.
“The UK is one of the witnesses to the Dayton Agreement and a member of the Peace Implementation Council, so it is necessary to react when the Dayton Agreement is undermined, and this is what the Republika Srpska authorities are doing,” said Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency, Šefik Dzaferović. – With a series of unconstitutional laws, decisions and conclusions, the RS authorities dealt a blow to the Dayton Peace Agreement and 27 years of its implementation.
This seriously threatens stability and disrupts peace in BiH, which is particularly alarming given the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the fact that the RS authorities, led by Dodik, support this aggression.”
At the same time, Milorad Dodik himself expressed himself regarding the unfriendly actions of the British in his characteristic manner:
“It’s a funny decision, I haven’t been there for ten years,” the leader of the Bosnian Serbs commented on the situation during today’s meeting of the People’s Assembly of the RS.
Let us recall that the leadership of the Republika Srpska is fighting for the return to the Serbian entity of BiH of the powers that the Supreme Representatives arbitrarily took from it and transferred to Sarajevo. In particular, the RS blocks BiH’s path to NATO, the country’s introduction of anti-Russian sanctions, and the republic’s independent economic policy in the field of partnership with Serbia, Russia and China, for which sanctions were previously imposed against it by the United States.
