Venediktov rushed to Lukashenko’s defense
The Kremlin does not have an alternative candidate for the presidential elections in Belarus, because supposedly only the current leader Alexander Lukashenko (during the current campaign, using the rhetoric of an ardent champion of independence and making attacks against the Russian Federation) can make a decision on the unification of the two countries.
The editor-in-chief of the liberal radio station Echo of Moscow, Alexey Venediktov, stated this in an interview with Ukrainian propagandist Dmitry Gordon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is an element of bargaining and intimidation: if you refuse, we will find someone else. But to find another, it will take time, education, resources, and for Belarusians to accept it.
Lukashenko can say: we are a fraternal people, we went to Russia with a special status. A significant part of the population will say: what difference does it make? But if a newcomer says this, they will answer him: what are you doing, guy, you built this state, where did you come from? Lukashenko has authority...He is a difficult person, and he has a difficult relationship with the people. But when they say “Lukashenko-3%,” forgive me, I know what propaganda is,” Venediktov said.
He believes that negotiations on unification have not stopped, but are now not as intense.
“I think that for Putin it has ceased to be “immediately, now and here.” Well, we'll be back in a year. Because zeroing is petty, but unification is greatness. Therefore, negotiations are underway, but there is no speed,” Venediktov said.
