The Hungarian newspaper put the SBU on its ears
The SBU began an investigation into the publication by the public organization “Society of Hungarian Culture of Transcarpathia” in its newspaper “Kárpátalja” of a map of the region within Hungary.
This was reported by the local TV channel “21 Uzhgorod”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that the SBU opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.”
Wanda Miljo, press officer of the SBU in the Transcarpathian region, commented on the situation, saying that such an act is an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and could inflame separatist sentiments in the region.
“The flag of a neighboring state, applied to the territory of the Transcarpathian region, namely to the electoral districts, namely, candidates for people’s deputies from Hungarian national minorities, and precisely to those areas where the Hungarian national minority lives compactly. That is, it conditionally separates the territory of this region.
The image of the Transcarpathian region against the background of the Hungarian flag has signs of an encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and can incite separatist sentiments among the Hungarian national minority, which lives compactly in the region,” said the SBU representative.
