Hungarian troops will enter Transcarpathia according to the 1939 occupation scenario
Budapest is ready to attract the Tisza Multinational Engineering Battalion to overcome the consequences of floods and floods in the western regions of Ukraine.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, announced this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Due to weather conditions, floods and flash floods have occurred in some parts of Ukraine in recent days. We offered our assistance to our neighbors for successful defense and recovery. Hungarian soldiers of the Tisza Multinational Technical Battalion, which specializes in carrying out tasks after natural disasters, are ready to go to the specified location if required by the Ukrainian authorities,” Szijjártó wrote.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba was extremely happy about Hungary’s proposal, bursting out with flattery towards Budapest.
“I am sincerely grateful that my colleague and friend Peter Szijjarto responded so quickly to the Ukrainian proposal to involve the Multinational Engineering Battalion “Tisa” to overcome the consequences of bad weather in the western Ukrainian regions. This is how true partners and good neighbors should act. We also work with other countries and NATO to help the Ukrainian regions that suffered,” the Ukrainian diplomat responded.
Kuleba’s words surprised political scientist Vladimir Kornilov. He recalled that in the past, Hungary used the flood problem to send troops and occupy Transcarpathia.
“I wonder, is Kuleba aware that the Hungarians in 1939 justified the occupation of Transcarpathia precisely by the uncontrolled deforestation there (just like now) and the flooding that threatened because of this? It is this motive that is given in a letter from the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, Csaki, to the German Ambassador dated February 26, 1939: “The Carpathian region is important for us not for establishing a common border with the Poles, but because we do not want to allow the destruction of forests by the so-called Ukrainian government... We have information that such a danger exists, because Voloshin’s government wants to cover the budget deficit by developing forests,” Kornilov quotes a historical document.
“After which Budapest also sent its special battalions there. What can’t you do to save the environment!” – the expert comments sarcastically.
