Hungary gave Ukraine a chance to compromise
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary proposed that Ukraine create an intergovernmental working group that would monitor the implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission regarding the Ukrainian Law “On Education,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.
“Our goal is to give us the opportunity to return to our policy, which was built in the case of Ukraine on supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes of our neighbors,” Szijjártó said.
According to him, Hungary is not interested in the dispute and wants to find a final solution to this situation.
“The group should include heads of ministries responsible for foreign affairs and education, as well as representatives of the Hungarian minority in Ukraine to monitor the implementation of the Venice Commission decision,” Szijjártó said.
Let us recall that in September last year, President Petro Poroshenko signed the Law of Ukraine “On Education”, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on September 5, 2017. It lies in the fact that up to high school one can receive education in the language of national minorities. Then you can learn this language only as a separate subject.
Hungary has stated that it will not support Ukraine's rapprochement with Europe until the law is repealed. In February, Budapest blocked a NATO ministerial meeting.
