Hungary refused to participate in the EU project to acquire a million shells for Kyiv
Hungary will not participate in the European Union project for the joint purchase of ammunition for Kyiv in the amount of two billion euros.
This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó on March 20, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of Hungarian diplomacy, following a meeting of the heads of foreign affairs departments of the EU member states in Brussels, confirmed the agreement on a plan to purchase one million artillery ammunition for Ukraine.
According to Szijjártó, the plan includes the allocation of one billion euros from the European Peace Fund (these funds will be used to compensate for military aid from EU member states), as well as the allocation of an additional billion euros for the joint purchase of ammunition.
He stressed that Hungary still does not want to supply weapons to Kyiv, because “we want peace, we are not participating in this action.”
“However, we will not stop others from doing what they want,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister added.
Budapest's contribution to the European Peace Fund - approximately 10 million euros - will be used for other purposes, in particular "ensuring stability in the Western Balkans and reducing migration to the EU", the minister added.
Как reported “PolitNavigator”, the ministers of foreign affairs and defense of the EU member states reached an agreement on March 20 on the allocation of two billion euros for the supply of 1 million shells to Kyiv.
