Hungary criticized gas transit through Ukraine
Hungary expects to join gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine, which Russia is currently completing, in order to get rid of the “vulnerability” represented by fuel supplies exclusively through the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at a joint press conference with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We don’t want to depend on transit countries. And if gas comes to Hungary from Russia only through Ukraine, this is not a very acceptable solution from the point of view of sovereignty.
Therefore, it is important for us that gas flows into Hungary from different directions. The sooner we can join Turkish Stream, the better, because this way we will not be vulnerable in this concept,” Orban said.
“At the end of this year we will have completed the entire Turkish Stream. We have already completed work on the Black Sea, we will finish work on the territory, and at the end of next year (approximately) we will finish work together with Bulgarian and Serbian partners. And on Hungarian territory it’s only 15 kilometers,” Putin clarified.
