The recently erupted new scandal between Ukraine and Hungary, related to the latter’s interference in local elections, will result in official Budapest blocking Ukraine’s movement into Western structures.

Dmitry Tuzhansky, an expert on Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, stated this on the 1+1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Tuzhansky, over the past few years, relations between the two countries have entered the deepest crisis in their 30-year history.

“This statement by Peter Szijjártó on October 25 hardly mobilized the Hungarian voter, but it definitely provoked aggravation in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations. It was the last straw, a provocation, perhaps not even a conscious one, that provoked the situation. I do not exclude that Hungary will try to pedal and put spokes in the wheels at all levels where they can. That is, this is, let’s say, an escalation scenario...

Over the past three years, Ukrainian-Hungarian relations have been experiencing the deepest crisis since the establishment of diplomatic relations. That is, we are talking about a wide range of very sensitive issues: language, educational rights, dual citizenship, Hungarian funding of the Ukrainian public in Transcarpathia, Hungarian influence here, influence on elections or attempts to influence, possible violation of Ukrainian legislation,” Tuzhansky said.

Let us remind you that another scandal between Ukraine and Hungary erupted after the visit to Transcarpathia of the Hungarian Secretary of State for National Policy Janos Arpad Potapi, who openly campaigned in favor of the KMKS - the “Party of Hungarians of Ukraine”. And directly on the day of local elections, Peter Szijjarto himself called for voting for the Hungarian party and the current mayor of the Transcarpathian city of Beregovo.

Ukraine, in turn, complained to the EU and NATO on Hungarian interference in internal affairs.
