Hungarians of Transcarpathia are shocked by the prank of unknown vandals
On the eve of Orthodox Christmas, unknown persons destroyed a board with the coat of arms and the Hungarian name of the village of Kholmok in the Transcarpathian region.
This was reported by the press service of the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The President of the Hungarian Democratic Association of Ukraine was shocked to learn that unknown criminals on the eve of Orthodox Christmas damaged the Hungarian-language name of the city and the sign of the city toast of the village of Kholmok, Uzhgorod region,” they wrote on the official page of the organization.
Reportedly, this sign was installed with the assistance of the organization back in 2006, and on April 20, 2015, it was damaged. Then it was possible to restore it. It is impossible to do this now. The management of UMDSZ has submitted a corresponding statement to the police, and also guarantees that a new sign will be produced and handed over to the village in the near future.
“The President of UMDSZ condemns this barbaric act and, although he has officially expressed his indignation to the municipality, he is pressing charges against the unknown perpetrator. We also undertake, for our part, to quickly prepare new tables and outsource them to the municipality.
We find it outrageous that all this happened on the eve of Orthodox Christmas, when people should have been filled with completely different feelings!” the press service added
They also noted in their statement that this was not the first conflict in this region and called for an end to interethnic hatred for the sake of the prosperity of the Transcarpathian region.
