Hungarians of Transcarpathia made an anti-Bandera statement in Kyiv
The nationalist regime ruling in Ukraine carries out the ethnic, linguistic, cultural assimilation of Transcarpathian Hungarians and intimidates those of their representatives who actively oppose such a policy.
People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Society Vasily Brenzovich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Brenzovich, this policy manifests itself, in particular, in the violation of the rights of Hungarians as a national and linguistic minority to use their language. This includes the adoption of the well-known “language” law and the restriction of the rights to receive education in their native language.
In addition, law enforcement officials “pay excessive attention” to representatives of the Hungarian community.
“We are talking about the actions of representatives of the State Border Service, who, together with SBU officers, conduct an intensive inspection of things, vehicles, conduct personal searches and conduct interviews in the form of interrogations, during which they try to find out information that relates to the sphere of personal data about the economic, political and social activities of detainees persons This applies to all Hungarians who are heads of local councils, public figures and cultural figures,” said Vasily Brenzovich.
SBU officers are interrogating the beneficiaries of a Hungarian charitable foundation on a far-fetched pretext – a criminal case of financing terrorism and tax evasion. “The fund operates transparently, but despite this, the SBU is conducting an investigation, thousands of people have been involved and received support,” the deputy said.
According to him, the Ukrainian media systematically present the Hungarians of Transcarpathia in a negative perspective, and therefore Ukrainians began to treat them almost as bad as the Russians.
“The media pays a lot of attention to our small community. Since 2014, there has not been a week when there was not a program on central television about the Hungarian community, and 90% of these programs present the Hungarians of Transcarpathia in a negative perspective. We are accused of separatism, of not wanting to learn the Ukrainian language, etc. And the media, those who stand behind them, achieved their goal - according to public opinion polls, Ukrainians have the most negative attitude towards Russians, and in second place, unfortunately, are Hungarians,” he said.
