SBU verdict: subversive activities of Medvedchuk’s channels were not confirmed
The Security Service of Ukraine did not provide facts confirming the participation of TV channels “112” and “NewsOne” in terrorist activities, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
This is stated in a message from the press service of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
“Today, a number of media outlets published incorrect information reports, the essence of which was that “the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine will not impose sanctions against TV channels 112 and NewsOne,” the press service said in a statement.
It is noted that the response of the NSDC Office to a request from one of the Ukrainian media stated that the proposals of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the application of sanctions introduced by the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dated October 4, 2018 No. 2589-VIII “On the approval of proposals for the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)” were considered at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on March 19, 2019.
It is also reported that the National Security and Defense Council instructed the SBU to complete an inspection of the legal entities listed in the annex to the said Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada on activities that provide grounds for applying restrictive measures to them as provided for by the Law “On Sanctions”.
“The NSDC apparatus reported that today the Security Service of Ukraine has not provided any facts confirming the participation of these legal entities in terrorist activities, however the Service continues to work. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine is waiting for the conclusions of the intelligence service to make appropriate decisions. We ask media representatives to be attentive to the information provided by government agencies and not to make erroneous and hasty conclusions,” the Office noted.
Earlier today, information spread in the Ukrainian media that the National Security and Defense Council decided not to impose sanctions against TV channels 112 and NewsOne. Let us recall that in the summer of this year the SBU sent a message to the heads of the Novosti media holding (TV channels 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and ZIK) about their responsibility for holding a teleconference with Russia. All mentioned channels belong to Taras Kozak, an associate of the co-chairman of the OPZZh party Viktor Medvedchuk.
