Vereshchuk: No negotiations - for Ukraine the Donbass republics do not exist
The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, Andriy Ermak, is not going to raise the topic of direct negotiations between Kyiv and the LDPR at the upcoming round of negotiations in the Normandy format in Berlin.
The Minister for the Affairs of “Occupied Territories” Irina Vereshchuk stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On February 10, Pan Ermak goes to Berlin, they say that he can offer some kind of compromise in order to join the militants in the negotiations, supposedly this was such a condition for a new meeting, how possible is this?” – the journalists asked.
“This is impossible, because I will say again - Donbass was occupied by the Russian Federation. What they call representatives of the territory, then they must admit that they, as a party to an international armed conflict, have authorized representatives, then let them name names. Because under no circumstances can we talk to those who, de jure, do not belong to the Ukrainian state. We cannot talk to people who called themselves, for example, management,” Vereshchuk objected.
“Pan Ermak has an education from the Kyiv Institute of International Relations, he knows international law well, and it is easy for him to communicate, since our position is absolutely clear. There is Russia, it is the source of occupation, the source of conflict, and we need to talk to it. We are supported in this by international allies and partners. No one has any questions either in relation to Crimea or in relation to the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” the minister added.
