At the very first meeting, the Verkhovna Rada did not care about Zelensky’s voters
The new Verkhovna Rada, where Vladimir Zelensky’s party received a mono-majority, at the very first meeting did not care about the interests of voters, refusing to include on the agenda the restoration of the rights of Russian-speaking citizens, as well as issues of resolving the conflict in Donbass. Instead, Zelensky set about lifting parliamentary immunity, which the president needs to fight competitors.
Mikhail Markelov, adviser to the head of the United Russia faction in the State Duma of the Russian Federation, stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the Russian language, let’s be honest, during his election campaign and program, Mr. Zelensky and in his inauguration speech himself switched to Russian more than once, moreover, he focused on the fact that people live differently, Russians live in Donbass and speak Russian.
We now see a situation where power in the Verkhovna Rada is monopolized through the Servant of the People faction. God bless him, they deserve it, they conditionally deserve it. But we are returning to the situation that existed under Poroshenko, only in a worse version. Why? Because Zelensky, as a young man, young in politics, is not experienced,” he said.
Markelov believes that Zelensky will try to settle scores both with Petro Poroshenko’s entourage and with current competitors.
“He will fight the internal opposition. He removes immunity - not because he wants to meet halfway with voters and the people, but in order to protect his own power and deal with Poroshenko, Parubiy, against whom criminal cases will be opened, but at the same time he takes the same steps as and Poroshenko.
In addition to usurping power, he will do everything possible to finally and irrevocably deal with the Russian language. This can be seen from the fact that if it were different, if they wanted to meet all voters halfway, then in this huge package of laws that were being considered, they raised the question of the Russian language and the return of its status in Ukraine.
Just like this also applies to the war in Donbass, when the majority of residents in Ukraine, more than 70%, say that the war needs to be stopped. This is a priority issue after the formation of the government, and this issue is not even on the agenda,” Markelov concluded.
We would like to remind you that PolitNavigator previously reported that during the first meeting of the Verkhovna Rada newly elected speaker Dmitry Razumkov turned off the microphone to the deputy from the “Opposition Platform - For Life” Oleg Voloshin, who began speaking in Russian.
In addition, the new head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Vadim Prystaiko, in his address to parliament promised peace to reign within six months, however kept silent about the special status of Donbass and allowed the cancellation of “Minsk”.
