The Verkhovna Rada demanded that Berlin recognize the Holodomor
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted an appeal to the Bundestag demanding that the so-called “Holodomor” be recognized as “genocide of the Ukrainian people” - the famine of 1932-33 in the Ukrainian SSR, which official Kiev now interprets as Moscow’s deliberate desire to destroy the population for their desire to secede from the Soviet Union, despite the fact that famine was also recorded in the union republics at that time, and in Ukraine significant demographic changes occurred precisely due to a decrease in the number of ethnic Russians.
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine calls on the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as the genocide of the Ukrainian people, providing a political assessment of these events, which will be an important signal for the memory of the millions of victims of this crime of the totalitarian regime, a significant contribution to ensuring a peaceful and safe future for future generations,” is written in the appeal adopted today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In addition, the Verkhovna Rada called on German parliamentarians to “counteract any attempts to diminish the scale or find justification for the crime,” tell the German public about it and begin “scientific research into the Holodomor.”
The decision was made by parliament immediately, without any discussion. During the voting, the appeal was supported by 331 deputies out of the required 226. The document will be sent to the Bundestag in the near future.
