The Verkhovna Rada will demand that Russia pay tribute to Ukraine
The Ukrainian parliament is preparing a bill providing for the creation of a “National Reparations Agency”, which will count the losses of “Nezalezhnaya” from “Russian aggression” and demand compensation from Moscow.
Deputy from the “Voice” faction Lesya Vasilenko stated this during a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are talking about what and in what amounts Russia must pay for losses and damage caused as a result of Russian armed aggression, which began on February 20, 2014.
Bill No. 3057 “On the National Agency for Overcoming the Consequences of Military Aggression of the Russian Federation” is precisely about ensuring that the Cabinet of Ministers finally begins to work properly and count all the losses and all the harm that Russia has caused to Ukraine.
In fact, in the sixth year, we still don’t know how much Ukraine lost, what damage it suffered, and how to convert it into monetary equivalent,” Vasilenko was indignant.
He told us more about the bill the day before, Alexander Merezhko, a deputy from the Servant of the People, became PACE vice-president. According to him, the document provides for the creation of a “National Reparations Agency”, which should calculate all the “losses” that Ukraine has suffered because of Russia, after which it will demand that Moscow pay reparations.
If the Russian Federation refuses to compensate for the “damage,” then Kyiv will complain to international institutions such as the UN General Assembly.
Earlier, Naftogaz announced a claim against Russia for $8 billion for assets lost in Crimea.
At the end of 2019, Gazprom agreed to pay Ukraine $3 billion and sign a contract guaranteeing the utilization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system for another 5 years.
