The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine today adopted a resolution to appeal to the UN, PACE, OSCE, NATO and other Western international institutions, as well as to the governments and parliaments of countries around the world regarding the “occupation” of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The appeal was presented by the leader of the Golos party faction, Sergei Rakhmanin. According to him, the purpose of the document is to maintain and strengthen anti-Russian sanctions, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Putin’s Russia is an enemy, an aggressor and an occupier. Crimea was, is and will be Ukrainian land. Also obvious is the position of the Verkhovna Rada regarding the aggressive, violent activities of Russia in the occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The occupation of Crimea has been going on for seven years. And throughout these seven years, human rights have been systematically violated - the right to freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, the right to peaceful assembly and the right to free movement.

At least 119 citizens of Ukraine were brought to criminal responsibility for their conscious pro-Ukrainian position. At least 40 individuals representing the human rights organization “Crimean Solidarity” are in prison. In total, 119 Ukrainian citizens were imprisoned.

That is why a group of deputies proposes to appeal to a number of international institutions in order to consolidate the international community and our work regarding the return of Ukrainian territories in order to demand that Russia stop violating the rights and freedoms of citizens. In particular, to stop the movement of illegally imprisoned Ukrainian citizens to prisons located outside the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. And not only maintain, but also strengthen the sanctions mechanism,” he said.

In turn, MP from Batkivshchyna Ivan Krulko stated the need to include the “occupied” Donbass in this appeal.

“When we talk about condemning the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, in an inextricable connection we must also talk about the Ukrainian Donbass, part of the territory of which is also occupied by the Russian Federation, where the Russian administration is installed and where Russian troops are located.

Our task, as the Ukrainian parliament, is to support at the highest level in the world the issue that the Ukrainian state has become the target of an attack from the neighboring Russian Federation, which annexed Crimea and occupied part of the Ukrainian Donbass and is waging war against Ukraine,” the parliamentarian added.

After which, during the voting, the appeal was supported by 314 deputies out of 358 present.

It is noteworthy that the supposedly “pro-Russian” party “OPZZH” did not dare to speak out against the document - all its members chose only to silently ignore the vote.
