Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Ukraine will also suffer losses from the sanctions, but is taking such a step deliberately.
“Ukraine will pay economically. This is the price for independence. This is our position. Over the past 10 years, Russia has been systematically reducing all imports of Ukrainian goods and curtailing cooperation,” he said.
“Sanctions apply only to the aggressor power, only to foreign agents, foreign companies and all other nasty things that prevent Ukraine from living,” the prime minister emphasized.
At the same time, he assured that points that had previously been criticized were excluded from the final version of the law - for example, closing media outlets without a court decision.
“On behalf of the government, I am very grateful. We showed that Ukraine can defend itself by adopting a law on sanctions,” Yatsenyuk thanked the deputies for the effective voting.
