The Verkhovna Rada asks the EU to demand from Russia the release of Ukrainian terrorists
The Verkhovna Rada demands that the European Union join the fight for the release of Ukrainian nationalist Oleg Sentsov, who was sentenced to 20 years for attempting a terrorist attack in Crimea.
Vice Speaker Irina Gerashchenko stated this at the beginning of today’s meeting from the rostrum of parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today is the birthday of Oleg Sentsov, one of a dozen activists who are being held in Russian prisons... Oleg Sentsov has only one guilt before Russia - that he is a Ukrainian and a patriot... He has two young children and an old mother waiting for him. The Ukrainian authorities, all people of good will, have been fighting for Oleg for three years now, and his sister is fighting for him. The Ukraine-EU summit opens today in Kyiv.
I think I can now say that this is an appeal from the entire Ukrainian parliament to our European friends and partners demanding that they fulfill their obligations to Ukraine and demand that Putin immediately release Oleg Sentsov, as well as all his colleagues whom Putin is holding in prison. We appeal to our European partners - our dear colleagues, human rights come first. Ukrainian citizens have been illegally detained in Russian prisons and in occupied territories for three years.
We call on the European Union to immediately impose sanctions against all Russians who are included in the “Sentsov list” and transferred by the Ukrainian authorities to the European Union, all FSB officers, judges, all Russian security forces who are illegally involved in the detention of Ukrainian citizens. We ask the European Union to immediately join the fight for Oleg, for Alexander Kolchenko, for our colleague Sushchenko, for dozens of Crimean Tatars, hundreds of Ukrainians who are being held in the occupied territories,” Gerashchenko said.
