The Verkhovna Rada will allow testing of foreign drugs on Ukrainians
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a bill allowing foreign corporations to conduct clinical trials of new drugs on sick Ukrainians.
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document was presented by MP from the Servants of the People Mikhail Radutsky.
“The bill aims to create a legislative framework to provide seriously ill patients with innovative treatment through the implementation of programs to provide free medications to patients on a compassionate basis,” he said.
According to the bill, foreign medicines that have not passed the necessary tests and have not received the appropriate license will be imported into Ukraine and provided to patients. After their use, reports will be compiled “on the effectiveness and safety of the use of such medicines.”
Deputy Natalia Korolevskaya said that this is a large-scale campaign to test new drugs.
"They (Ukrainian government - approx.) propose to conduct clinical trials of drugs not yet recognized in the world on Ukrainians. This is a very serious and important bill, because corporations usually pay a lot of money for clinical research.
And here we don’t hear anything about this - who received the money, who is proposing to carry out this in Ukraine, what kind of clinical studies are these on Ukrainians?” – Royal was indignant.
However, during the voting, the document was supported by 293 deputies out of 345 present. The document was adopted in the first reading and sent for further revision.
