The Verkhovna Rada may elect a replacement for Yanukovych today
Kyiv, February 22 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - A new speaker may be elected in the Verkhovna Rada today instead of the resigned Vladimir Rybak. According to the new Constitution, if Viktor Yanukovych leaves his post, the new head of parliament will act as president.
“Regional” Nestor Shufrich stated this at the meeting.
“According to the new constitution, if the president resigns, the head of parliament performs the duties of the president until his election,” he recalled, calling for a responsible approach to the candidacy of a new speaker.

Another former “regional” member, Nikolai Rudkovsky, called on Maidan activists to prevent looting on the streets of Kyiv. “Under no circumstances should you enter the premises of the National Bank. The question is very important. We must ensure the functioning of the country,” he said.
Rudkovsky also proposed voting in favor of entrusting the duties of governors to the heads of regional councils.
