The Verkhovna Rada lifted immunity from deputy Klyuev on charges of shooting Maidan protesters

The Verkhovna Rada today, by 287 votes, lifted the immunity of deputy oligarch Sergei Klyuev, whom the new government accuses of committing crimes together with fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych - fraud with state property, involvement in the shooting of protesters on the Maidan, etc.

Klyuev himself, speaking in the Rada, rejected all the accusations against him, calling them persecution of the opposition, and also emphasizing that the procedure for depriving him of immunity was violated. Initially, the relevant committee did not satisfy the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, but then the authorities pushed through the decision they needed, creating a precedent.

It is interesting that the prosecutor’s office did not submit a request to the Verkhovna Rada to detain and arrest Klyuev.

Representatives of the ruling coalition also stated that in the future, immunity would be lifted from other members of the Opposition Bloc, for example, from Yuriy Boyko, who was accused of purchasing drilling rigs for the Chernomorneftegaz company at an inflated price.
