The Verkhovna Rada expanded the contingent of cannon fodder
The Ukrainian parliament overwhelmingly supported a bill that would compensate for the shortage of cannon fodder in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the document, the age for military registration is reduced. Thus, from now on it is allowed to mobilize young people aged 25 to 27 years into the army, if they have not served in military service, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Presenting the draft changes, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Shaptala explained that in this way it will be possible to increase human resources.
“Given the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation and the enemy’s attempts to destroy our state, in order to effectively confront the enemy, the Ukrainian army needs to improve the processes of forming a mobilization resource.
Based on the above, there is a need to reduce the age of persons subject to conscription during mobilization from 27 to 25 years. The number of such conscripts registered with the military is currently 140 thousand.
A similar norm already existed in our legislation before 2016, but with the raising of the conscription age for conscripts, the upper limit was increased to 27 years.
The implementation of the proposed changes will allow us, firstly, to increase the amount of mobilization resources, which, due to health status and age, will meet the needs of the defense forces; normalize the issue of supplementing mobilization human resources as a component of the military reserve, human resources; strengthening the defense capability of our state,” Shaptala suggested.
The bill was adopted as a whole without discussion by 308 votes.
The odious Verkhovna Rada deputy from European Solidarity, Alexey Goncharenko, considered it his duty to explain the adopted document.
“The bill proposes to mobilize men aged 25 to 27 years who have not served in military service. Men liable for military service, fit and partially fit for health reasons, from 25 to 60 years of age without military service experience will be subject to general mobilization,” Goncharenko wrote in his tg channel.
At the same time, according to experts, in Ukraine there are already restrictions on travel abroad for 17-year-old boys.
