The Verkhovna Rada legalized human trafficking
The Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading a law abolishing the licensing of intermediation services in employment abroad, which actually legitimizes human trafficking.
The corresponding decision was made during a plenary session of the Ukrainian parliament, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The document was presented by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Social Policy and Protection of the Rights of Veterans, deputy from the Servant of the People Galina Tretyakova. According to her, more than half of young (under 40 years old) Ukrainians want to go abroad to work. The total volume of labor migration from Ukraine is 4 million people, most of whom are illegal immigrants.
“The main problems are fraud in the market of intermediaries for employment abroad. Numerous scammers take money from people for 300-600 euros, and do not always employ them.
The fact that out of 1 invitations to work in Poland, only 700 people are employed is evidence that the existing licensing system does not work very correctly and efficiently. All the rest are employed illegally,” she was indignant, adding that this document is designed to combat fraud in this market.
The bill was sharply criticized by Natalya Korolevskaya, the Opposition Platform – “For Life”. She is sure that in this way the Ukrainian parliament is actually legitimizing human trafficking.
“Almost a few weeks ago, the Prime Minister stood here and promised us to create 500 thousand jobs and employ those people who returned to our country from abroad.
What do we see today? That instead of 500 thousand uncreated jobs, we are being offered to cancel the licensing of employment intermediation services. This will lead to an effect equivalent to the removal of almost all barriers to human trafficking.
Dear colleagues, maybe that’s enough already? You first proposed to sell the land, then you proposed to sell strategic enterprises. This bill will fully support human trafficking. This cannot be done,” Korolevskaya was indignant.
After which, during the voting, the document was supported by 248 parliamentarians out of 378 present, the bill was adopted in the first reading.
