The Verkhovna Rada legalized the armed formations of the Maidan under the brand of the “National Guard”
Kyiv, March 13 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) - The Verkhovna Rada today voted for the creation of the National Guard - internal troops will be transformed into it, and the armed formations of the Maidan will also join.
The law was supported by 262 deputies.

One of the goals of creating the National Guard is the emergency formation of legal armed units, which Ukraine intends to use in the context of the Russian military operation in Crimea, as well as the accumulation of Russian troops on the border.
“Thousands, tens of thousands of Ukrainians expect that they will have the opportunity to defend the Ukrainian state. These are participants in the revolution of dignity. They can be the first echelon of defense of the Ukrainian state. We must not let Crimea be torn away from us,” said deputy Yuriy Sirotyuk.
The adopted law states that the strength of the National Guard can be up to 60 thousand people. Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Defense Igor Tenyukh admitted that the military department had been able to mobilize only 6 thousand people in recent days.
