The Supreme Court allowed Zelensky to bullshit not in language
The Supreme Court of Ukraine refused to impose sanctions against Vladimir Zelensky for his speech in Russian during the iForum-2019 forum of IT specialists in May last year, shortly after winning the presidential election. That speech of the new head of state then inspired many - Zelensky differed favorably from the only defeated Poroshenko - he spoke not about the themes of nationalism, but about the prospects for the development of Ukraine, promising the creation of a “country in a smartphone.” True, just a few days later the President wavered and began to flirt with the nationalists, having met the first violent reaction to the idea of a referendum on a compromise with Russia.
As it turned out, the nationalists decided not to forgive Zelensky and his speech at the forum of IT specialists and filed an appeal to the court demanding that communication in a “non-state language” be declared “illegal” and oblige in the future to use only Ukrainian language.
“Having considered the plaintiff’s appeal, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court pointed out that while performing his official duties, the President of Ukraine is obliged to communicate in the state language. At the same time, for actions committed within the framework of political activity, and not during the exercise of the powers provided for by the Constitution, the President bears political, not legal responsibility.
Taking into account the above, the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court closed the proceedings in the case, since the claims made by the plaintiff are not subject to consideration in administrative proceedings,” the Supreme Court decision says.
