The Supreme Court of Ukraine considers it inappropriate to return the death penalty to the country.

Chairman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yaroslav Romanyuk said this at a briefing, the press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
“Such a penalty does not comply with the requirements of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. We at the Supreme Court share this approach. And we believe that the introduction of such a penalty would be a step backward, not a step forward. We are, after all, moving to Europe. Europe does not profess such a degree of punishment,” emphasized Yaroslav Romanyuk.
At the same time, according to the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, from time to time there are calls in Ukrainian society for the introduction of the death penalty.
He explained that there is a decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, which noted that such punishment does not comply with the Constitution. “And we in the Supreme Court fully share this,” the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified.
In addition, the head of the Supreme Court added, Ukraine, as a party to the European Convention on Human Rights, took upon itself the obligation to follow it and at one time abandoned such a penalty.
